Urban Meyer Honors Late Assistant Coach Who Played A Major Role In Meyer’s Success At Ohio State
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

Urban Meyer is hands down one of the best coaches in the history of college football, and you can’t become one of the best coaches in the sport without having great leaders around you. Over this past weekend, one of the best leaders to be around, Meyer, sadly passed away, and Meyer sent a heartfelt message to his late friend.

Urban Meyer Brought Ohio State A Title In 2014

Back in 2014, Ohio State had a horrible fall camp, and when I say awful, it wasn’t because of play but more so because their star quarterback, Braxton Miller, would get hurt and be ruled out for the season.

Freshman quarterback J. T. Barrett would come in and start for Miller, but a bad Week Two loss to Virginia Tech had the Buckeyes out of the playoff hunt for most of the season. Ohio State would play great down the stretch, but then Barrett would get injured against Michigan, sidelining him for the season. Third-string quarterback Cardale Jones would bring the Buckeyes to the title.

A lot of major players and coaches made the title possible, but one of them was Tim Kight, who was behind the scenes leading the team in another away, and this past weekend, he passed away.

Tim Kight Was A Leadership Coach

Kight joined the Buckeyes staff in 2013 as a leadership consultant. He first worked with players and then, in 2014, started working with the other coaches. Whatever Kight did must have worked because winning a title only took him two years. Leadership is a significant part of any winning title team, and he played a huge role in Ohio State’s success.

Tim Kight’s son, Brian Kight, went to social media and stated, “My dad, Tim Kight, died peacefully in his sleep last night. He was so many things, to so many people, to so many of you. Whether or not you got to meet him, you felt him. He was that kind of presence. But to me he was just Dad. And that was everything. I love you, Dad.”

Urban Meyer Honors His Late Friend

Meyer went to social media over the weekend to write a lovely message to his friend Tim Kight. He stated,” I met Tim Kight in the spring of 2013. His impact on me personally, our staff, and our team was profound. He was a passionate competitor and loved helping people get better. A great leader, teacher, mentor, and friend. God’s mercy and grace on the Kight Family. ”

As you can see, Kight had a massive impact on Meyer and the other Ohio State coaches, players, and community and will be truly missed by many people.
