Green Bay Packers GM Gets Honest About Aaron Jones

Earlier this month, the Green Bay Packers bid farewell to Aaron Jones, marking an unexpected conclusion to his tenure with the team as they opted to release him when he respectfully declined a pay cut.

The departure of the veteran running back came as a surprise, especially considering his stellar performance during the 2023 season, where he achieved over 100 rushing yards in five consecutive games, including the postseason.

In a move to fill Jones’ void, the Packers secured former Las Vegas running back Josh Jacobs with a four-year deal.

Addressing the media at the league’s owners’ meeting on Monday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst reflected on the decision to part ways with Jones.

Gutekunst acknowledged the difficulty of the decision and emphasized Jones’ significant contributions to the team. With the acquisition of Jacobs, the Packers aim to maintain or even surpass the level of performance Jones displayed during his time with the organization.

Jones concludes his tenure with the Packers boasting impressive statistics, including 5,940 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns on the ground. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in Green Bay’s passing game, amassing 272 receptions for 2,076 yards and 18 touchdowns from 364 targets.

Meanwhile, Jacobs, at 26 years old, comes off a season with 805 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 233 carries across 13 games, following a remarkable 2022 campaign.

Interestingly, despite his departure from the Packers, Aaron Jones remains in the NFC North, having signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings subsequent to his release.
