Milan Coach Poised to Become an Option for Bologna

Stefano Pioli could land on his feet once Milan officialize his sacking, as, on top of Napoli, Bologna would also take a look at him if they had to replace Thiago Motta. It would be a return for him.

According to Sportitalia’s Gianluigi Longari, the boss is highly regarded by Felsinei’s director Giovanni Sartori. The two briefly crossed paths at Chievo Verona, where the manager helmed the Primavera side in 2002/2003 and then the first team in 2010/2011.

Pioli already managed Bologna from October 2011 to January 2014. He finished 9^th and 13^th before being fired. He then went on to take over Lazio, Inter, Fiorentina, and finally Milan.

The Rossoblù are earmarking gaffers but haven’t given up hopes of retaining Thiago Motta, whose contract ends in June. Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, president Joey Saputo wants to open a cycle with him at the helm. He’ll tender a two-year deal and promise reinforcements.

Bologna clinched their return to Europe in the last round. They had been absent on the continental stage since 1999/2000. Despite a few draws lately, they remain in fourth position with a six-point lead over sixth place.

While worrying about the future of Motta, it’s reassuring that the Rossoblù will go for an established coach without getting too fancy if they were to substitute for him. It wouldn’t be shocking if the Milan boss became an option for Juventus too if they missed out on their top target.
