Report: Attacker’s dip in form attributed to the upcoming move to Tottenham
Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports

Tottenham Hotspur’s recent signing, Lucas Bergvall, experienced a setback with Djurgardens as the club lost the Svenska Cup final to Malmo on penalties this Wednesday.

Earlier in January, Spurs secured the Swedish sensation, Bergvall, just before the winter transfer window closed.

The Lilywhites finalised a five-year deal to sign the midfielder from Djurgardens IF, reportedly for €10 million.

Bergvall has stayed with his current club until the end of the season and will make his move to the North London outfit in July.

Throughout the Svenska Cupen, the youngster consistently displayed his talent, although he couldn’t impact the final to sway the outcome in his team’s favour.

Malmo, who has remained undefeated in all competitions, were the favourites to win the cup final.

However, Djurgardens had outside chances of pulling off an upset, particularly with talented players like Bergvall in their team, who had been in remarkable form throughout the cup competition.

However, Djurgardens had outside chances of pulling off an upset, particularly with talented players like Bergvall in their team, who had been in remarkable form throughout the cup competition.

The central midfielder made significant contributions, directly contributing to a goal in each of his five appearances leading up to the final, tallying 3 goals and 4 assists.

However, his form has seen a dip as of late. Bergvall’s shaky form in Allsvenskan, where he managed only one goal in six appearances and made no direct goal contributions in his last five league games, continued into the final.

There’s a prevailing belief that the young player’s head is at Tottenham, leading to a recent decline in performance.  Journalist Anders Lindblad shares this sentiment in his column for Svenska Dagbladet (via Sport Witness).

The teenager couldn’t conclude his spell at Djurgardens in style by clinching the Svenska Cupen title.

TBH Says:

Bergvall has already shown glimpses of his incredible talent in the last few months since joining Spurs.

Regardless of his recent dip in form, fans will be very excited to see him play in a Tottenham shirt, with previous reports suggesting that people at Spurs have been left so impressed with him that he may be integrated in the team next season.
